Who is FoodForward SA ?

Established in 2009 to address widespread hunger in South Africa, FoodForward SA connects a world of excess to a world of need by recovering surplus food from the consumer goods supply chain. The organisation reaches up to 250,000 daily at the cost of R0.90 per meal. Beneficiary organisations include orphanages, places of safety, creche’s, disability care, aged care, skills and youth development.

FoodForward SA is the largest not for profit surplus food distribution organisation in South Africa. We collect food from two sources: (1) from suppliers’ distribution centres across the country into our warehouses, using our large logistics infrastructure, and (2) using digital technology called FoodShare, to link our partner retail stores and other food outlets to our Beneficiary Organisations (BOs) for the daily collection of edible surplus food.

Our Vision

Our vision is to see a South Africa without hunger and our mission is to reduce hunger in South Africa by safely and cost-effectively securing quality food and making it available to those who need it.

Funds raised will…

Funding will support our efforts to feed hungry South Africans using recovered food. These meals will allow those living with hunger to take advantage of other opportunities available to them, such as learning at school, taking their vital medication or looking for a job.

The funds will also go towards the cost of feeding our Beneficiary Organisations which include orphanages, places of safety, creche’s, disability care, aged care, skills and youth development.

How can people get involved in further supporting the project?

People can help support by visiting our website and making a donation towards our food recovery costs.
